  1. High School Seniors who graduated May/June 2021, May/June 2022, or who will graduate May/June 2023
  2. High School students in 9th, 10th or 11th grade who are taking dual college credit hours
  3. Returning college or graduate students who have received the Dennis W. Holder Scholarship and who have not exceeded the 2 year break between
    semesters

WHO WE ARE

The Dennis W. Holder Scholarship Fund is a non-profit organization, federally tax-exempt under section 501(a) of the Internal Revenue Code as an organization described in section 501(c)(3). The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships for children or grandchildren, either biological or adopted, of the City of Houston paid fire fighters, to attend an accredited college, university or technical training school.

Our goal is to award scholarships to all eligible candidates, year after year. We are committed to shaping the future of these children. We strongly believe in the power of education and its ability to better both the world and the individual.

    Michael Coleman Sr.
    Michael Coleman, recipient of 2 awards sponsored by Michael Coleman Sr.. Dr. Coleman received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He completed his residency training in the ophthalmology at the renown Kresge Eye Institute. Dr. Coleman completed his sub-specialty training at the prestigious Wilmer Eye Institute at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. He currently resides in Lansing, MI with his beautiful wife and children.

Later attending The University of Texas Health Science Center- Houston Medical School, obtaining his Medical Doctorate (MD) degree. After graduation, he pursued medical residency in family medicine at the Texas A&M Family Medicine Residency Program in Bryan. He is currently working for Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine in Bryan. His focus is on medical student and resident physician clinical education. He lives in Bryan with his wife, Sorin, who is a small animal veterinarian in College station.
